Festival Jamu Nusantara — Event & QR Check-in Platform

The Problem

Indonesia’s traditional herbal medicine (jamu) is a centuries-old cultural heritage — but events celebrating it still run on manual processes. Festival organizers deal with paper-based registrations, manual attendance tracking, scattered photo galleries, and no way to engage attendees beyond the event itself.

For a national-scale festival hosted by BPOM (Indonesian Food and Drug Authority) at GBK Senayan Jakarta with thousands of attendees, a spreadsheet-and-WhatsApp approach doesn’t scale.

The Solution

Festival Jamu Nusantara is a full-stack event platform that digitizes the entire festival experience — from registration and ticketing to on-site QR check-ins with a gamified points system. Attendees scan QR codes at festival entry and individual booths, earning points for each check-in. Organizers manage everything through a Filament-powered admin CMS.

As the freelance full-stack developer, I built the entire system from architecture to deployment — frontend, backend, admin panel, and server infrastructure.

Key Features

QR Check-in & Points System

  • Festival entry QR — Auto-generated 12-character codes award 100 points on scan
  • Booth QR codes — Individual booth codes award 50 points per scan
  • Mobile scanner — Floating action button activates camera for instant QR scanning
  • Activity history — Members view their check-in log and total points

Member System

  • Registration — Email/password signup with profile management
  • Authentication — Token-based auth via Laravel Sanctum with auto-refresh
  • Profile dashboard — Points balance, activity history, and event registrations

Event & Competition Registration

  • Three competitions — Mixologist, Temu Lawak, Estafet Permainan Nusantara
  • File submissions — Upload up to 6 files per competition registration
  • Submission management — Admin review and approval workflow
  • 6 galleries with 6,600+ images from festival events
  • Organized by category — Event highlights, competitions, cultural performances
  • Responsive gallery viewer with Swiper carousels

Homepage Experience

  • Hero with countdown timer — Dynamic countdown to festival date
  • Activity highlights — 10 different festival activities showcased
  • Event rundown — 2-day schedule across 5 stages
  • Sponsor showcase — Partner logos and Tiket.com ticket integration

Admin CMS (Filament 3)

  • Full resource management — Users, festivals, booths, events, submissions, galleries, activities
  • Custom admin theme — Branded to match festival design
  • Data tables — PowerGrid for searchable, sortable, filterable records
  • Sitemap generation — Auto-generated for SEO

What I Learned

  • QR codes are deceptively complex — Generating unique codes is easy. Preventing duplicate scans, handling offline scenarios, and validating booth-specific codes in real-time across thousands of concurrent users requires careful planning.
  • Cultural design matters — The batik-inspired color palette (beige, brown, gold, green) wasn’t just decorative. It communicated the festival’s identity before users read a single word. Custom fonts (SS Nickson One, Museo) reinforced the heritage feel.
  • Event platforms have a hard deadline — Unlike SaaS products, a festival platform must be fully working on event day. There’s no “we’ll fix it next sprint.” This changes how you prioritize and test.
  • Gallery at scale — Managing 6,600+ images across 6 galleries taught me about storage optimization, lazy loading strategies, and the importance of CDN for image-heavy event sites.
  • Filament is a game-changer for admin panels — What would have taken weeks to build manually was done in days with Filament 3. Custom themes, resource management, and PowerGrid tables out of the box.
